For example, if two authors wrote a paper together but their names do not appear on separate lines in their reference list, then these two names should be separated by “and.” A good rule of thumb is always to check whether at least one author has more than one last name (e.g., John Smith vs John R Brown). If he/she does not have more than one last name, then treat him/her as though he/she has only one last name (John Smith).
