How to Install Shadowline Ceiling
Shadowline ceilings are created by using a particular metal angle at the junction of a ceiling and wall. Metal angles are available in many sizes, thicknesses, lengths. These steps will help you create shadowline ceiling detail once you have decided on the right angle for your design.
- Before you start, ensure that there is enough space between the plasterboard ceiling and wall. You should allow at least 12mm space. Plasterboard thickness should not be less than 10mm
- The metal angle should be cut to the required length. Line it up with the shadowline edge, making sure it aligns with the wall surfaces. Use the stapler to secure the angle in maximum 300mm centres along each face using nails opposite one another.
- Apply three coats of compound according to the below method. Use the nib to control the thickness of the compound.
Coat 1: Cover approximately 150mm of the angle faces with coat 1, and push it through any perforations.
Coat 2: Extend this coat approximately 200mm from the corner.
Coat 3: With the edges feathered out, extend it approximately 280mm beyond the corner.
- Dry it for at least 24 hours (or longer if you have cold or wet conditions).
- After the finish compound has dried completely, lightly sand the surface with sanding mesh, 150-220 grit or paper. This will depend on the hardness of your finishing compound.
- It can be painted over to match the rest.
