Snapchat Dark Mode: How to Enable It

People often experience eye strain from using their phones at night. However, the harsh blue light of screens at night can make it difficult for them to fall asleep, causing headaches and other problems. Dark mode is an option that many apps, websites, smart devices, and other devices offer to help you get around this.

What is Dark Mode?

Dark Mode, also known as night mode, is where the app’s colours are changed to create a darker environment. Dark mode is also known as bedtime mode. This setting is for those who plan to sleep in the dark. Facebook can enable Dark Mode along with other apps like Snapchat.

Not all apps have a night mode, and even the most popular apps do not offer this feature.

This is how you enable dark mode on Snapchat, regardless of what other apps can do.

How to enable dark mode in Snapchat on iOS

Snapchat, the popular picture messaging and chatting app, is known for constantly releasing new features. These new features are constantly entertaining and amusing users. Dark Mode for Snapchat iOS was launched in May 2021. Here’s how you can use it.

  1. Click your “Bitmoji ” to open your Snapchat profile.
  2. In the top right, select the Icon “Gear (Settings),”.
  3. Scroll down and select App Appearance.
  4. Choose “Always dark.”

How to use Snapchat Dark Mode on Android

Snapchat promises Dark Mode for Android but doesn’t seem to be updating everything (as of April 2022).

Some users might have Dark Mode (beta mode), depending on where they are located. It remains to be determined. Snapchat may have discovered a problem they cannot seem to solve. We won’t know. Anyways, don’t despair.

Android Snapchat might not be able to support Dark Mode natively. However, you can still try another solution.

To force Dark Mode on Snapchat and other apps, you will need to turn on ‘Android developer mode’. Dark Mode may affect some features of Snapchat and other apps, such as Snapchat’s visibility.

Not applicable to Android 10 or newer. For Snapchat, Dark Mode is not required. Maybe Snapchat’s Dark Mode on Android 9 or earlier was used to make its progress? It is not clear.

Here’s how you can test it to see if it works.

  1. Scroll down and click on the Gear (Settings Icon) in the top left.
  2. Select “Display.”
  3. Allow Dark themes. Some phones may label it Dark Mode.
  4. Back to ‘Settings’, and tap on ?System?
  5. Click on the Advanced Dropdown Menu, then choose Developer options.
  6. Scroll down to “HARDWARE ACCELERATED RENDERING”, then tap on the “Override Force-dark” tab to activate the option.

The “Override Force-dark” option in “Developer Options” replaces the “Force Dark Mode”, which is located in the “Display” options menu. However, it is very similar. The “force” option in “Override Force-dark” makes dark mode stay on, so apps use the system’s default dark mode setting. This is not the app’s settings. This is because the “Force Dark Mode” setting in “display” now says “Dark theme”, which may not be applicable to some apps. It also never switches off automatically. Snapchat doesn’t switch to black for some reason.

Although they are somewhat outdated, there are still some options for Android that force Dark Mode when you use Snapchat. Substratum is one of the most popular and easy-to-use apps. Substratum will only work if your Android device is rooted.

The Play Store also has “Blue Light Filter”, which, although it doesn’t add Dark Mode Snapchat to your phone, allows you to adjust the brightness of the screen. Blue Light Filter does not require you to root your Android phone. Instead, it acts as a film on top of the display. Blue Light Filter can be used to reduce the brightness of Snapchat.

Is Dark Mode able to prolong battery life?

Users who choose a darker theme for their devices will notice a longer battery life. A lighter theme will require more battery power than a darker one. This is one way to prolong battery life.

Android users will ever be able to use Dark Mode on Snapchat.

This is the only answer we have at this point. Snapchat did not confirm the darker theme in 2022.

If you are an Android user, Dark Mode (submit feedback to the developers) can be requested. Open Snapchat Settings, tap on “I Have A Suggestion” and fill out the form. Snapchat will prioritise the request if there are more users.
