‘Pokemon GO’ Has Made $5 Billion In Five Years

All of us remember the brief period when Pokemon GO seemed to have taken over the world in 2016, when everyone was running around outside catching Pokemon with the AR game. It was one of the most loved brands in gaming.

Pokemon GO has never been anywhere. In fact, its success over the past five years has made it a significant milestone.

Sensor Tower, an analyst firm, reports that Pokemon GO has achieved $5 billion in annual revenue.

This is in addition to other statistics, such as the chart below that shows 2021 was the most expensive half-year since launch. It cost $642 million. That’s 34% more than the previous year. The total revenue for Pokemon Go in 2020 was $1.2 billion. This is 41% more than the previous year.

Finally, despite Pokemon being Japanese and how popular GO is, the United States is the largest revenue generator for the game. It accounts for $1.9 Billion of the $5 billion earned over the five-year period.

Despite fan outcry, “Genshin Impact” still refuses to increase anniversary rewards

Sensor Tower tracks Pokemon GO downloads at 632 million. The US is #1 for those, with 115.5 million downloads. This 18% share makes up the majority of the total. India and Brazil are actually the second and third on this list. Surprisingly Google Play is responsible for 77% of all downloads. The Apple App Store accounts for 23%.

This is how Pokémon GO is monetized. The revenue side is even more impressive. Pokemon GO is not like other mobile revenue drivers. It does not have a gacha system, nor do players pay to skip wait times or power up their Pokemon. Although they offer some benefits, such as incense, Pokeballs, and XP boosters, the game is not as lucrative as Genshin Impact. Genshin Impact has all of its top characters and weapons within a heavily paid gacha system, where players can gamble hundreds, even thousands of dollars to get what they want. It’s free to play Pokemon GO, but the fact that it makes so much money is amazing.

There are no signs Pokemon GO is slowing. There are many more Pokemon regions to be added, and the game is continually being updated with new features and events. You can expect more growth and more revenue.
