What to do if your Internet fails and the Xbox network is blocked
The Microsoft Xbox 360 Game Console can connect to the Xbox network using Wi-Fi for online gaming, video streaming, and other web features. If you’re having trouble connecting, here’s how to fix the most common wireless connection issues on Xbox 360.
The information in this article applies to the Xbox 360, not to be confused with the original Xbox. There are separate steps you can take if you need help connecting your Xbox.
Causes Xbox 360 connection issues
How to Connection issues with the Xbox 360 can be caused by:
Wi-Fi security settings do not match between the console and your wireless router.
Network conflicts with other wireless devices.
Too much distance between router and console.
Network firewall restrictions.
Poor internet connection.
Like a high-traffic Internet service, Xbox network users are joining the experience of time-out breaks where, despite being online, their console can not succeed. Such breaks usually resolve themselves quickly.
How to fix Xbox 360 connection issues
Try the following steps in order until your console can’t connect to the Internet:
Check your network password. Xbox 360 wireless connections sometimes refuse to accept the Wi-Fi network password. Make sure you enter the correct password for your home wireless router, keeping in mind that passwords are case sensitive.
Turn off Wi-Fi encryption. If your Xbox claims that the network password is incorrect even if you know it is correct, it usually indicates that the type of network encryption configured on the Xbox does not match that of the router. This usually happens when the router is configured for WPA2-AES. Temporarily turn off Wi-Fi encryption to confirm that this is the case, then change the settings on both devices to get an employee integration.
Move the console. The Xbox 360 may fail to connect to a home wireless router if it is located too far from the unit or if obstructions (such as walls and furniture) are between the devices. Bring the console closer to the router to see if that solves the problem. Replacing the router with a better signal range router or upgrading the router’s Wi-Fi antenna can also solve this problem. Installing an external Wi-Fi adapter with a directional antenna on the console may help as well.
Move other wireless devices. Wireless signal interference can cause Wi-Fi devices to run slowly or lose a connection, especially when running on a 2.4 GHz band. To avoid this problem, try changing the Wi-Fi channel number, or move the nearby wireless equipment farther away from the terminal.
Disable the firewall. Network firewall configuration issues can block a home network from supporting the TCP and UDP ports used by the Xbox network. Temporarily disable your router’s firewall features to disable this option.
Check the wireless signal. Check for a problem with your router. There are many things you can try to solve slow internet connection problems. If performance bottlenecks occur inside your home, either add a second router to your home network or upgrade your existing router.
Contact Microsoft Technical Support. If the problem persists, it may be due to poor console hardware, or your Gamertag may be banned from the Xbox network.
