The Brawn Brew Sens is a great buy at just $100. It’s a good choice for those who want to enjoy good-tasting coffee on a tight budget. It does have some clever tricks, but the primary goal of the Braun BrewSense is to brew smooth coffee.
It’s also not too bulky, so it will fit well on any countertop. This compact design and affordability is a great choice for college students and post-grads who are moving into their first apartment.
We have placed the Braun KF6050WH BREW Sense at the top on our list of best coffee makers. We’ve spent a few weeks testing the coffee maker and have now shared our opinions on why it deserves to be number 1.
In 2018, the Braun BrewSense KF6050WH went on sale at an MSRP of $120.95. It’s currently available at Amazon starting at $89.95 It is one of the most affordable Brewsense coffee makers, with the Braun KF7000BK at $15 less. The KF7000BK has an all-black finish and is functionally identical to the KF6050WH.
To help reduce recurring costs, a permanent gold-tone filter has been included. However, you can also use #4 paper filters. To avoid sediment in your drink, wash the reusable filter after each use. It is dishwasher-safe.
Braun Brew Sense: Features
Braun Brew Sense is a simple coffee maker. The Braun BrewSense can brew up to 12 cups of coffee at 5 oz each, or one 11-oz travel cup.
If you’re looking to make a fresh cup of coffee every morning, there is a 24-hour programmable timer. The 1-4 cup setting allows you to make four cups of coffee, even if you don’t have a full-sized carafe. This is ideal for single drinkers (like me most mornings), or couples.
If you want to keep your coffee warm longer, the machine will turn itself off automatically after two hours. However, you can set the timer for 5-minute intervals. This feature was very useful for me when I was with friends or needed to spread out my morning coffee.
If you need your caffeine fix quickly, the Brew Pause feature allows you to pour a cup of espresso at any time during the brew cycle. You’ll need to pour it quickly as the coffee machine won’t work if the carafe is removed for more than 20 seconds.
When it is time to clean the coffeemaker from calcium buildup, a ‘clean” warning will be displayed. The descaling process takes approximately 45 minutes and can be activated by pressing the “clean” button. You can adjust the water hardness by holding the “clean” button.

The Braun KF6050WH does not have a temperature control for the hotplate and a brew strength selector. These features are also available in the Braun BrewSense KF7150BK drip-coffee maker.
Braun Brew Sense KF6050WH: Design
The Braun KF6050WH Brew Sense measures 7.9 x 7 x 14.2 inches. The compact footprint of the Braun KF6050WH Brew Sense is ideal for small kitchens, but it can also be used in an office break area or college dorm. You will need to store your coffee spoon.
The KF6050WH’s 60-oz non-removable water reservoir can be hidden from plain sight, giving it a sleek, seamless profile. The stainless steel lid is located on top of the coffee maker and opens up to reveal the removable brew basket, permanent filter in gold tone, and reservoir.
The Braun KF6050WH Braun BrewSense fit perfectly onto my countertop. However, there was enough clearance under my cabinet to allow me to move the appliance forward for water and coffee.
The control panel is located at the front of Braun BrewSense KF6050WH. It includes an on/off and seven buttons that correspond to different functions. The digital display above the control panel shows the time. This display is unfortunately small and non-backlit. It can be difficult to read in dim or intense lighting. For those with poorer vision such as mine, this may prove problematic.
A warming plate is located at the base and holds a 60-ounce glass carafe. The carafe can be washed in the dishwasher and comes with a plastic lid which I found difficult to snap back into its place.
Braun Brew Sense KF6050WH – Ease in Use
The Braun KF6050WH BREW Sense installation takes less than 20 minutes if the charcoal filter is installed. This step is optional but highly recommended if you are using tap water or want to ensure the best brewing results. The filter should be changed every two months.
The Braun KF6050WH’s operation is simple. Simply turn the appliance on, fill the water reservoir with hot water, and then add your coffee grounds. I found the medium grind to be the best. Finally, press the “brew” button. Braun suggests adding 1 tablespoon to each cup of coffee you brew. Adjust your preferences as needed. Any more than 15 tablespoons can cause the brew basket to overflow.
Eight cups of coffee can be brewed in eight-and-a half minutes. This is slower than the Technivorm Moccamaster Select KBGV Select, but it’s still faster than the Ninja Specialty’s classic setting. The Braun KF6050WH does not have an alarm that will indicate when it is done brewing, but the loud popping sound at the end of the brew cycle can be a good indicator.
Here are some caveats. It can be cumbersome to fill up the non-removable tank, especially if your water supply is tethered. The 1-4 cup setting was a nice convenience, especially as I only made coffee most mornings. I was unable to choose how many cups I wanted, so I just filled the reservoir with water until I had enough.
Braun Brew Sense: Performance
The Braun BrewSense 6050 WH drip machine is a great value for money. It makes a delicious cup of coffee. Although it isn’t Moccamaster-level, the Braun BrewSense KF6050WH makes great coffee. It has the right grind consistency, a properly-cleaned permanent filter, and my coffee was flavorful.
Even after several hours, the hot plate does a great job keeping coffee warm. There were times when my first and second cups of coffee were a bit different. The latter cup was always as hot as the one I had just brewed.
I set the timer on the KF6050WH’s auto brew function. This was the night before my early morning wake-up call. This function worked flawlessly and I was greeted immediately after getting out of bed with a freshly brewed cup of coffee.
Brew Pause worked well. I was able, mid-brew, to make a cup of coffee without any drips onto the hot plate. However, I had to pay attention to the 20-second window that prevented the machine from restarting the brewing process without my carafe.
The Brew Sense KF6050WH makes a lot of noise during the brewing process. There is a loud popping sound at the end. This popping sound can be used as an alarm to remind you that your coffee is ready.
What We Didn’t Like
The LCD of the Braun KF6050WH can be hard to read for those with poor vision, including myself. As seen on the Braun Brew Sense (KF7170SI) drip coffee maker, a larger display or a better backlight would have been a nice addition.
Although the Braun KF6050WH BREW Sense is easy to use, some directions can be confusing and require some self-reliance. There isn’t much information on how to program the 1-4-cup setting. This was something I really wanted to try since I only have one or two cups of coffee most mornings.
The Braun BrewSense KF6050WH drip espresso maker has a seamless design, but the downside is a hard-to-access water reservoir. This is the most common complaint about this machine, and it’s a valid one.
