Sometimes, you do not want to share an Instagram story with all your followers. Fortunately, Instagram has a dedicated option for the list of permits for those times. This feature, called close friends, allows you to share a story with just a small group of friends.

How to use the feature of so close Instagram friends.

Setting up a close friend list

There are several ways you can manage your list of closed friends for Instagram stories. You can add someone to your close friends list from their profile or use your own “Close Friends” screen.

To get started, open the app and tap on your profile picture in the bottom right corner to go to your profile.

Then tap the burger menu in the top right corner.

The first time you use this feature, the list will be blank; Tap “Get started”.

You can type someone’s name into the “Search” bar to search for it on Instagram.

Tap the “Add” button next to the account name of the person you want to add to your close friends list. Repeat for all the friends you want to add.

When you are done, tap “Create List” and your close friends list is ready!

Now, when you go back to the “close friends” section, you see the people you added in your head. You’ll also see a list of profile suggestions – click “Add” if you want to add any of these people to your close friends list. If you want to remove someone from the list, tap “Remove”.

You can also remove a friend you follow from your close friends list from their profile. To do this, tap “Follow”.

Click “Add to close friends list”.

You can then go back to clicking “Close Member” to remove it from your close friends list.

You can change and edit your close friends list at any time, and as many times as you like. So close Instagram does not notify friends about the activity of your close friends list.

How to share stories with close friends

The Close Friends feature is integrated with the Instagram Stories interface.

To use it, swipe left in the main Instagram interface. Create a new Instagram story like you normally would (and maybe try some of the new effects).

When you have finished editing your story, tap “Close Friends” in the bottom toolbar to share it with your close friends.

Your profile icon in the Stories section will encircle a green circle symbolizing that it is a close friend’s story. If you see the same green circle around a friend’s profile picture in the Stories section, it means you’re on their list of close friends.

As you watch your Close Friends story, you can tap “Close Friends” in the upper left corner to edit your Close Friends list.

You can also slide over your story to see which of your close friends watched it.

With Threads, select “Close Friends Only”

Instagram also has a new cluster app dedicated to your list of close friends. This is a good way to keep in touch with your loved ones and loved ones without being distracted by memes or videos.

Clusters is a ‘close friends’ feature in its own app. It allows you to quickly share a story with one friend or your entire closed friends list. Your DMs on Instagram with close friends are also available in the Clusters app.

Threaded conversations work fully for you even if your friends are not using the app (they can use the ‘Close Friends’ feature on Instagram).
